Monterey Bay Regional Business Plan Competition

The MTC, an economic development project of the City of Marina, is one of more than 30 sponsors of the competition region wide. Others include the Cities of Santa Cruz, Watsonville and Gonzales; the County of Monterey; MIIS, CSUMB and UCSC School of Engineering; the IP Society and NextSpace Coworking and Innovation, Inc. of Santa Cruz.

The 2010 contest received 61 applications. Twelve were chosen to submit complete business plans and present their ideas to teams of investors at the Monterey Institute of International Studies (MIIS) on May 7. The grand-prize winner, Larell Surgical Consultants of Carmel Valley, has developed a patented process for manufacturing dentures that saves the patient thousands of dollars. Congressman Sam Farr presented Larell founder Lawrence Wallace with the prize of $50,000 in cash and services from regional attorneys, business coaches and marketing and public relations professionals.

The next competition is scheduled for May, 2011. Workshops to assist entrepreneurs to compete to the best of their abilities are ongoing at the MTC. Biz Plan Competition Events

TechNet

TechNet is held at the Marina Technology Cluster to showcase relevant and timely technology topics. Here technologists, entrepreneurs, bankers, government officials and educators gather to exchange information, get to know one another as regional resources for each other's businesses, learn about new technologies coming out of the region, and meet entrepreneurs. This is where deals happen.

See you at the next TechNet!
